Weekend Box Office: Transformers Rocks Box Office
By James Aquilone on July 8th, 2007
“Transformers” didn’t disappoint at the box office. The action extravaganza, based on the ’80s animated series, crushed the competition by earning $67.6 million over the weekend to land at No. 1. The Michael Bay-directed movie has broken several records. It set the record for the highest gross for a non-sequel in its first seven day with $152.6 million since opening on Tuesday, surpassing 2002′s “Spider-Man.” “Transformers” also set records for best Tuesday opening with $27.5 million and best July 4th gross ever with $29.1 million.
In comparison, “Spider-Man 3″ earned $151.1 million in its first three days of release and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” took in $114.7 million in its opening weekend.
The week’s only other new release, “License to Wed,” starring Robin Williams and Mandy Moore, landed in fourth place with $10.4 million over the weekend and $17.8 million since opening on Tuesday.

Wow, amazing results for a comic to movie port, or any movie, for that matter. I myself found it really good, despite not knowing the Transformers much before this movie.
At first, I was not interested to see it when I heard about it, until I saw the trailer, which is when I changed my mind and had to see it. Lots of action, but also humour!
Do they have a date for the sequel yet?

Just what I expected from a Transformers movie. I hope the sequel has some of the other Transformers that we wanted to see, e.g. Soundwave, Hotshot, and a little more from Starscream! And just to get things straight Transformers was a toyline then a cartoon, then a comic. It was definitely not a comic to movie port.

I was very much annoyed at the cinematography in Transformers. Apparently as a cost cutting move they chose to blur the action shots to reduce the amount of detail. Cheap shot, and not what I expected after paying $$$ to see the movie.

Transformers ruled! I was a little worried that Bay might not be able to pull it off but he really knocked this one out of the park. I plan on seeing it several times on the big screen.

Expected results, I saw it last Tuesday and the theater was packed. This is a great movie, if you haven’t seen it yet leave your computer alone and head for your nearest theater now.

[...] It was really worth the $10 as I have been telling some of my friends. The story is decent as it was somewhat in line with the old 80’s cartoon. There were definitely some parts that were cheeze (def. cheeze: something that is tacky and stupid mainly along the lines of guy tries hard to get girl and she might/might not fall for it). But if you are looking for action, and I mean non-stop action from the beginning, with intense CGI , look no further. With it already making box office records, the movie leaves the audience wanting more. Of course there is more… but don’t click the link unless you’ve seen the movie as it does contain spoilers… (/disclaimer) [...]

Transformers got lucky that it was raining many places on July 4. In fact, they couldn’t get much luckier.
