DISTURBIA
Release Date: August 7
Starring: Shia LeBeouf, David Morse, Sarah Roemer
Director: D.J. Caruso
Length: 104 minutes
I can admit when I’m wrong. A few months ago, I voiced my disapproval of Shia LeBeouf being cast in the fourth Indiana Jones movie. But after seeing “Transformers” and now “Disturbia,” I feel confident that LeBeouf won’t ruin the upcoming Indy movie. That job will be solely George Lucas‘s. LeBeouf, as he did in “Transformers,” turns in a great performance in “Disturbia,” an update of Alfred Hitchcock‘s “Rear Window.” LeBeouf plays Kale, a troubled teen under house arrest who suspects his neighbor (David Morse) is a serial killer. What is refreshing about “Disturbia” is that it doesn’t rip-off or insult “Rear Window”; it takes the 1954 movie in a new and exciting direction. And though the phrase is often used to describe thrillers, “Disturbia” truly “kept me on the edge of my seat.” It’s a first-grade thriller. Definitely worth checking out.

THE MONSTER SQUAD “The Monster Squad” is back in this two-disc 20th anniversary DVD. The 1987 cult movie, on DVD for the first time, follows a group of kids who battle Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, the Wolfman, and the Gillman. After all these years, “The Monster Squad” has been pretty much forgotten, but the movie holds up pretty well. It may be only second to “The Goonies” when it comes to kiddie adventure movies of the ’80s. Bonus material includes a five-part retrospective and a conversation with the Frankenstein monster. | $14.99
