Geek Honey of the Month: Ruby Rocket Strikes Again!
By James A. on June 4th, 2007

Geek Goddess Ruby Rocket has been setting fanboys’ hearts aflutter online since late last year when she was featured on a website I used to co-publish, the GeekZine. Response to her pictures was enormous, but things only got crazier after that. Through the Zine (with an assist from digg.com), she came to the attention of Maxim magazine, which featured her on their photo blog. She says the offers have been pouring in and now there are even plans for a Ruby Rocket comic book (read the Q&A for more on that). Ruby says she’s just an ordinary geek who likes to dress up like superheroes and play video games. Just check out the pictures and you’ll see there’s nothing ordinary about her. But enough of my yakking. Here’s Blogzarro’s Geek Honey of June…
Ruby Rocket
Age: 21
Height: delightfully short
Measurements: 40-27-35
Interests: comics, sewing, hair, hot rods, video games
Favorite Costumes: Scarlet Witch, Batgirl

Heroes: Ava Gardner, Barbara Gordon, Lili St. Cyr, Jean Grey, Warren Ellis, Stewart Immonen
Hopes/Aspirations: To continue on the path I’m taking and become successful at what I do.
My Super Power Would Be: Mind bullets! (That’s telekinesis, Kyle)
Geekiest Moment: Every convention…I explode into a fangirly mess when I get to meet creators and artists that I adore.
Things began to take off for you after I featured you on my old website, the Geekzine. Can I take credit for discovering you?
Sure! Someone’s gotta take credit for it, right?
I hear there’s a Ruby Rocket comic in the works. What can you tell me about that?
Well, it’s being put out by APE Entertainment. In the beginning it’ll be 4-6 one-shots with a “Dial H for Hero” sort of feel: Ruby Rocket trying out different superhero personas. Readers will then get to vote on which will become an ongoing series.
What was it like getting on Maxim’s website?
I was totally shocked when they first emailed me and asked if I could send them photos to use. My mind is still blown that it’s happening to me. It’s weird that I’m so lucky, for a change.
What were some of the stranger or more dubious offers you were getting after the GeekZine feature?
Oh, wow, well…I won’t go into specifics, but let’s just say that certain fetish communities have really taken a liking to me.
You really seemed to have hit a chord with the geeks. Do you have an explanation for that?
Honestly, it might just be because I truly am a geek/nerd/whatever myself. I go into my local comic store every Wednesday and pull my comics out of my box just like others in the fandom, and I do sit in front of the computer or TV playing video games for countless hours. I’m just your average geeky girl who got a few lucky breaks.
Do you get noticed in public from your Internet exposure?
In comic book stores, sometimes, but never just when I’m out day-to-day. I’m definitely nowhere near well known enough to be recognized by Joe Suchandsuch.
You must get harassed by creepy geeks a lot. How do you deal with them?
I wouldn’t say it happens a lot, really. When I do get an email that crosses the line and makes me feel uncomforatable, I’ll just ignore it, usually. But, honestly, it doesn’t happen often.
Which of your costumes gets the most attention?
Black Cat. It’s the kind of the costume I’ve become the most known for.
What was the first superhero costume you ever wore?
Well, dunno if she counts as a superhero by American standards, but the first one I wore was Sailor Moon. I patched it together out of clothes from my dress-up box when I was much, much younger.
How did you get the name Ruby Rocket?
Well, it was a collaboration between my boyfriend and I. People always refer to me as Red, since my hair definitely stands out, but we wanted to go with something a bit more elegant sounding, so that’s where Ruby came from. The Rocket part came from my love of vintage space movies and images and the fact that my head’s off in the stars half the time.
Do you ever get the urge to fight crime while dressed like a superhero?
Oh, no. I’ll leave that to the professionals.
What would a Bizarro version of Ruby Rocket be like?
Probably your completely normal, home-grown girl next door. With a lovely collection of V-neck sweaters, in pastels, and pleated skirts.

[Are you a geeky girl? Are you hot? If you answered yes to both of those questions, you could become the next Geek Honey of the Month. Send pics to geekhoneys@blogzarro.com]

She’s not bad, but I’ve known better.
She needs to work on those street-girl thighs & hips.
I like my super heroins with hips / arse that make you beg like a puppy dog.
Hers don’t qualify…

@ Wayne Smallman
Dude, you must be insane!!!! If Ruby Rocket’s hips and arse don’t make you beg like a puppy dog, you are obviously the worst judge of women since Liberace.

It’s so rare for a woman to figure out how to tap into her hidden power and drive 97% of the male population crazy.
All the power to her, and for women to learn.
If only it were as easy as that for men to drive women crazy with lust!

Wow, I like the detail and the costume crafting. I wanna see the ol’ Sailor Moon costume, I’ve considered it myself. And yes, she’s very beautiful.
